Can schools teach ecology in a fairer way? Ecopedagogies in practice I 29th September, 2026 I Online
Member Forums are spaces where our community comes together to exchange ideas and share successful educational practices, as well as discuss challenges related to different educational topics. This edition turns to environmental and outdoor education : how our relationship with “nature” is taught, and what it means to build a just ecopedagogy.
What to expect
The session opens with a look at ecopedagogies (plural, because there is no single way to teach ecology!). We’ll unpack the different philosophical traditions behind environmental education today, from approaches centred on individual behaviour change to those that place social and environmental justice at the heart of learning. We’ll also map out where EU policy currently stands on environmental and outdoor education, and where QUEST sees room and urgency for it to go further.
From there, we move from theory to practice : one of our member forest schools will take the floor to share what ecopedagogy looks like on the ground ; how their outdoor practice puts these ideas into action with children everyday, and what they’ve learned along the way.
