This toolkit explores the potential of digital storytelling to engage young people in democratic participation and civic engagement. Developed under the Erasmus+ project YOUDEX – Youth Digital Storytelling for Democracy, it places youth personal narratives at the centre, demonstrating how lived experiences can illuminate democratic values in families, schools, and communities across Europe.

The toolkit was created following a three-day international training in Berlin, bringing together young participants, youth workers, and educators from across Europe. It draws on practical exercises, ethical reflection, and hands-on guidance to support youth in expressing their experiences and producing meaningful digital content.

Structured in three modules, the toolkit covers an introduction to storytelling and its ethical dimensions, guidance on shaping and structuring stories, and a practical overview of digital storytelling tools, including Canva, CapCut, DaVinci Resolve, Adobe Lightroom, Audacity, and Flipnote Hatena.

Designed for youth, educators, and youth workers alike, this toolkit offers a flexible and engaging pathway to tell stories that matter, connecting personal experiences to broader democratic participation and civic dialogue.
