The mission of OUTSIDE (Open commUniTies for SustaInable DEvelopment) project is to support European schools promoting the acquisition of innovative skills working together on green business ideas and helping students to promote experimentation, cooperation and team work in view of developing sustainable business projects that help schools connect with local communities

This project aims to empower both students (aged 11-16) and teachers as change agents in their local communities. The competences that today’s students need to succeed in their careers can be hardly developed within traditional curricula. These competences involve: green competences, sustainability, entrepreneurship and creativity. With this projects students can gain innovative skills through the creation of entrepreneurial projects based on sustainable development.

objectives

The specific objectives of the project are:

  • Enhancing the acquisition of innovative skills through the creation of entrepreneurial projects based on sustainable development to empower young students as Change Agents and helping students make a change in and whit the local community.
  • Promoting environmental and sustainable development education through the integration of the 17 SDGs into the relevant education systems to help youngsters identify local needs, opportunities and challenge and turn environmental problems into business opportunities.
  • Boost the involvement of “Open Community of Learning” (schools, institutions, third sector, civil society and business world of the local community) to network with other organization across Europe through the online Project Platform.

activities

The project is divided into three phases.

 

  • Phase 1: “Outside the classroom” consists on mapping the environmental needs, interests and opportunities of the local communities;

 

  • Phase 2: “Think outside the box” for the identification of the business ideas;

 

  • Phase 3: “Go outside” and turning environmental issues into business opportunities.
